Interns Become Integrated into our Culture

At Sunrise Labs, interns are an integral part of our culture of learning. They are immersed in projects which provide them with opportunities to learn and practice in their discipline of study. They typically spend ten weeks at Sunrise and are assigned a manager to advise them. Working within our systems and beside seasoned mentors, they gain experience that can be an invaluable introduction to their chosen career path. We are nearing the end of the 2022 summer internship program, and our fourteen interns each presented what they learned while working at Sunrise.

Our Mechanical Engineering interns learned aspects that go beyond what can be learned in a classroom. They worked on client projects that required machining, and prototyping, and were involved in discussions with manufacturers and vendors. One indicated he’d appreciated the experience of working on a sub-assembly that required brainstorming on solutions and bringing it to a functional prototype.

One of our Software Engineering interns felt the highlight of his experience was learning the formal software development process, documentation, and control in a highly regulated environment. Another Software intern enjoyed learning about securing and authenticating pipelines, automation, containerization, and cloud-based virtual machines.

Our Electrical Engineering intern appreciated learning new skills outside of his discipline, such as using Solidworks, Python, 3D printing, and the importance of GUI and Iterative Design early in the design process.

“Interns are an important part of the Sunrise culture as they remind us of the spark needed to look at problems and be creative with solutions in all the ways in which we design and operate the business for success.”, says Sherry Harding, Director of Employee Experience.

“Our interns will be able to continue to apply this knowledge in their future careers, and some, we hope, decide to take jobs with us at Sunrise upon graduation. We learn as much from our interns as they learn from us; they help keep us young at heart!”, says Eric Soederberg, President of Sunrise Labs.
