At Sunrise Labs, we pride ourselves on our incredible team of top notch engineers. These individuals work tirelessly alongside our clients to solve problems and apply new technology to healthcare, consumer, and industrial products across the globe. While historically engineering has been a predominantly male-dominated industry, at Sunrise Labs, women engineers are essential and critical members of our engineering teams.

To celebrate International Women in Engineering Day, we (virtually) sat down with several of our female engineers to discuss their experiences in engineering. Each woman’s experience is certainly unique, yet their stories demonstrate commonalities and reveal more of what it means to work and excel as women in engineering.

Whether the decision to pursue engineering as a career was made in high school or college, eventually the women of Sunrise all decided to apply their passion for problem solving and creativity to engineering. They had no shortage of wisdom they wished to impart to girls hoping to enter STEM.

For Megan, a Software Engineer, the desire to pursue a career in STEM was evident very early on. She shares her passion for engineering by conducting a workshop in electrical engineering for 9th grade girls through NH Tech Alliance’s TechGirls program every fall. She feels that sharing her passion with young women is a way of giving back and hopefully, sparking a career path in an engineering discipline. “The advice you give to young women getting into engineering should be no different than the advice you give to anyone getting into engineering. It's hard but rewarding,” said Megan.

Principal Software Engineer Christine says, “Don’t shy away from opportunities. Keep learning.” While Kelly, a Program Manager,  urges girls to “Give yourself a voice.”  Trisha, Director of Quality and Test, enjoys the innovative, supportive culture and the sharing of knowledge at Sunrise. “Make sure that you choose a career path that you love and find a company who empowers and respects their people,” said Trisha.

The words of our women team members reiterates a core value of Sunrise Labs. We pride ourselves on our company culture that ensures all team members feel safe and valued.  Our teams are stronger because of the remarkable women who bring their creativity, experience, professionalism, and skills to the office each and every day.

Sunrise looks forward to seeing how future generations of women engineers take these words to heart and apply them to their own careers. Many thanks to Trisha, Christine, Kelly, and Megan for their time and assistance with this article.
