Your work defining the product experience through the identification and measurement of human capabilities has allowed them to work with greater confidence and speed. Departments seek you out directly for advice on their projects.

You have helped to grow our team as we bring in less experienced Human Factors Engineers. Your mentorship has helped them to identify opportunities within their careers. They are growing and extending our team even further.

What’s it like in the User Centered Design team at Sunrise Labs?

We are a newer team within a 125 person consultancy capable of providing Total Product Development. Sunrise Labs can tackle any aspect of Medical Device design and we seek out tough problems to solve. We treat each other with respect and act with high integrity.

The UCD team defines how people living with difficult health conditions interact with the complex systems that improve their lives. We simplify medical technology and make it fit into the lives of the humans using it. We design with empathy.

We start with an assumption of positive intent. We use this belief to drive open and honest communication within our company and with our clients.

We see Human Factors Engineering as a Systems Engineering discipline. We use the practice of Human Factors Engineering strategically to optimize user experiences to improve patient health outcomes for our clients. Testing may be part of the role, but it isn’t the core. We are looking for a new team mate who can help with some of the needs listed below. No one covers everything, so let’s talk about which of these areas you feel like you can contribute.
 
  • A strong technical background in Human Factors Engineering to complement your time in the industry
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Psychology, Human Factors Engineering (HFE), Biomedical or Systems Engineering, or other relevant Engineering discipline
  • Experienced judgment from your 8+ years in Human Factors Engineering, allowing you to break down client or stakeholder needs into an actionable project design
  • Knowledge of how to communicate the project as a series of prioritized actions for less experienced human factors engineers engineers
  • Interviews with end users and stakeholders to help our team develop interview data into deep insights and design inputs
  • Rigorous, research backed documentation of human capabilities which help our collaborators define user needs, requirements, and specifications that drive the product design
  • Advice to clients on the human factors engineering process implications of different product approaches within the medical device development process as well as the common standards (AAMI HE75; AAMI 62366, and AAMI 14971)
  • Comfort coaching less experienced engineers on Human Factors Engineering methods, research and documentation
  • Engage the broader MedTech community with thoughtful written or spoken contributions to the practice of Human Factors & Systems Engineering, identifying Sunrise Labs as a home for great Engineering
